Papad Gravy/Happala Ambat

Happala Ambat is a traditional konkani gravy, goes well with hot steamed rice. It is made using Urad Papad. Urad papad are an important part of konkani meal. We will always have stock of home made urad papads.

Ingredients:
Coconut - 1 cup
Red Chillies - 4 to 5
Tamarind/Hunase Hannu - small piece
Urad papad pieces - 4 to 5
Mustard Seeds/Sasive - 1/2 tsp
Urad Dal/ Uddina Bele - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds/Mente - 6 to 7
Curry Leaves/Karibevu - few
Asafoetida/Hing - pinch
Salt - as per taste
Oil
Method:
Grind Coconut with Red Chillies and Tamarind to a smooth paste.
Heat Oil in kadai.
Add Mustard Seeds,Urad Dal,Fenugreek Seeds and Hing.
When Mustard Seeds splutters, add Curry Leaves and Papad pieces and fry for few minutes.
Add the grounded paste.
Add water as per required consistency.
Add salt and bring it to boil.
Serve hot with steamed rice.
